Residents of Sabon Birni LGA in Sokoto State rejoiced on Monday after Nigerian Army troops smashed an attempted bandit attack, eliminating at least 13 suspected criminals in a well-coordinated counter-operation.
The confrontation began when soldiers stationed in Kurawa, near Kwanan Kimbo, intercepted the attackers and engaged them in a prolonged gunfight that forced the bandits to scatter in confusion. Troops pursued the fleeing assailants across a stream and stormed their hideout, where additional bodies were recovered.
Local sources reported that nine corpses were found around the immediate battle area, while four others were discovered in nearby bushes. Several weapons—including AK-47 rifles and large quantities of ammunition—were recovered and moved to the Kurawa military base.
Military officials described the operation, executed under Operation Fansan Yamma, as “highly successful,” confirming that the bandits suffered heavy losses while the army recorded no casualties whatsoever.
